UNRWA Union protests dismissal of 600 Palestinian staff in Gaza, on 11 January 2026 [Mohammed Asad/Middle East Monitor]

Employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) staged a sit-in in front of its administrative headquarters in the Gaza Strip, expressing their strong dissatisfaction with the arbitrary decision to dismiss 600 employees. Dr. Mustafa Al-Ghoul, head of the employees’ union, stated that this measure was unjust and arbitrary, and that UNRWA must reverse its decision. He added that further action would be taken in the future.
