The African Union’s Peace and Security Council has called for the “immediate revocation” of Israel’s ⁠recognition of Somaliland, saying the move violates the sovereignty and territorial unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. In a statement posted on X on Tuesday after a ministerial meeting, the council strongly condemned what it described as Israel’s “unilateral recognition of the so-called Republic of Somaliland”. The council said it firmly rejects any actions that could undermine the unity of African states or affect their internationally recognised borders. It called on Israel to reverse the decision without delay, while reaffirming the African Union’s long-standing and firm support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
