Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel stands with the “aspirations of the Iranian people for freedom”, against the backdrop of protests over economic conditions that began last week in several Iranian regions. Speaking during the government’s weekly meeting, Netanyahu said: “We stand in solidarity with the struggle of the Iranian people and with their aspirations for freedom and justice.” In a statement issued by his office, he added: “We may be facing a decisive moment in which the Iranian people can determine their own future.” The protests began last Sunday in Tehran in response to rising living costs and worsening economic conditions, before spreading to include political demands and to other areas.
