“True to the historic commitment of my country to the Middle East, to peace between the Israelis and Palestinians, this is why I declare today, France recognises the state of Palestine.”  So stated President Emmanuel Macron to more than 140 leaders in attendance at the United Nations General Assembly on 22 September.  He further declared that “we must do everything in our power to preserve the possibility of a two-state solution”.
